Write faster in Markdown preview with smarter in-editor suggestions

2026-05-21

Markdown preview now helps you format as you type with context-aware suggestions, quick keyboard selection, and cleaner inline formatting while you read.

  1. Open your file in Manage, then switch to Edit inside the preview panel.
  2. Start a new line to see structure suggestions like headings, lists, checklists, and quotes.
  3. Continue writing in a sentence to get inline options such as links, bold, italic, and inline code.
  4. Use arrow keys to choose a suggestion, then press Tab or Enter to insert it.
  5. Press Escape to close suggestions when you want to keep typing normally.

What this means for you

You can move from idea to formatted Markdown with fewer interruptions. The preview editor now suggests the right formatting at the right time, so you can keep momentum without manually adding every marker.

Best way to use it

  1. Open a file from Manage and switch to Edit mode in preview.
  2. Use suggestions at line start for structure, then inline suggestions while writing sentences.
  3. Accept a suggestion and immediately replace the highlighted placeholder text with your own words.
  4. Return to Read mode to confirm clean formatting for links, emphasis, and inline code.
  5. Keep only the tabs you need and continue editing without leaving the preview flow.

This update is built for faster drafting sessions where you want formatting help without losing focus on the content itself.

A better drafting rhythm

Start a new note with plain language first, then use suggestions when structure becomes useful. A heading can separate ideas, a checklist can turn rough tasks into action items, and a quote block can call out context you want to preserve. Because suggestions appear while you write, you can add structure without leaving the editor or hunting for syntax examples.

Inline suggestions help with the small formatting choices that often interrupt momentum. Use them when you need to mark an important phrase, add a link, or include a short code value. After accepting a suggestion, replace the placeholder text immediately so the draft still sounds like your own writing.

When to use it

This flow is most helpful for notes that change quickly: meeting summaries, project plans, support snippets, and draft documentation. You can stay in Edit mode while the idea is forming, then switch back to Read mode to check whether the Markdown is clear before saving.

Use it well

Turn this update into a smoother Markdown habit.

Try the improvement with one active file before changing your whole routine. Open a note you already use, follow the steps above, and notice where the workflow feels faster, clearer, or easier to repeat. Small changes are easier to keep when they solve a real task you already have.

After the first pass, apply the same approach to related notes, drafts, or project files. Keep names clear, remove anything that no longer belongs in your active files, and return to the update whenever you need a quick reminder of the best way to use the feature.
